Help me give my students greater communication and connection. I will use this device to video chat with families and give individual help to students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
When asked the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?", every single one of my students answers with professions such as "doctor", "scientist", and "engineer". Most of my students are Somali immigrants that live in or around Twin Cities, Minnesota. They know how to dream big and aren't afraid of challenges. Our school is located in a lower-income area. My students have many obstacles to overcome: poverty, parents busy working, lack of attention, and a late start to their education. However, I know that with their outgoing personalities, competitive spirits, and strong determination, they will succeed when given the chance.
My Project
This ipad will help us support students and families through good communication and connection. I want to maintain healthy and professional boundaries while still being available and there for families. We will be able to video call parents and students to check-in and help with academic challenges. In this difficult year, teachers need to be flexible and adaptable to find what works best. An ipad will give me flexibility and accountability with my teaching partner. We would be able to use shared digital files for attendance, homework checks, and more. Having updated technology would be an amazing help to our teaching and to our students!
