Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Third graders have a far better understanding of spending than they do of saving and investing. An iPad will hold their attention and allow them to become financially literate.

I teach a diverse group of students.

Seventeen are Latino, five are African American, and three are Asian/Pacific Islander. Six of them are English learners. My school is a high poverty school and almost all of my students receive either free or reduced meals. They are a bright and eager group who thrive with the help of technology. Because many of them come from families who cannot afford to provide them with cutting edge technology to enhance their learning at home, it is my goal to do so while they are in my classroom.

My Project

I am requesting an iPad with Retina Display because I envision teaching in a classroom where every student has one of these wonderful devices with which to learn. I imagine my students using various iPad applications to learn about money management and economics. Some examples of these apps are: Farmer's Market, Pocket Money Manager, and Saving Spree. I plan to use these applications to teach my students about financial literacy. This is an innovative, hands-on way to teach my students how to be responsible money managers.

By helping my students acquire financial literacy, I will be setting them up to succeed as adults.
