I Can Be an Author Too

My Students

My students are diverse, enthusiastic, bright kids eager to learn. Our strength as a school is our diversity. We each bring our unique experiences to one school and one classroom where all learners feel safe to express their thinking and learning in many different ways. My students ages range from 6- 8 years of age. They come from all walks of life and family dynamics. They need nurturing, encouragement and a goal mindset. My students love art and movement as well as science and technology as we are STEMM school.

My Project

This year more than ever, my students need very explicit, consistent and engaging writing instruction in order to gain the writing skills lost during distance learning. Writing skills suffered the most during the pandemic as writing is very difficult to teach, practice and learn in a distance learning setting. I will use the TPT funds to purchase a Writers Workshop Year long curriculum to use for daily explicit instruction. The stencils will give a fun and encouraging aspect to daily writing. The authors chairs is a critical part of Writers Workshop as it gives a voice, purpose and audience to these young 6 year old authors. The editing journal is key to learning grammar and syntax through daily practice.
