I Can Also Be Included and Succeed

Help me give my students a sense of self, help them identify their feelings, keep calm, understand others and provide them with a sense that they(students with moderate disabilities and Autism) can also reach their fullest potential!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project, "I Can" and the materials and supplies, will be implemented in our Self Contained, Skills for Living and Learning Classroom (SLL). I love that they are a wonderful blend of students with a variety of grades (K-5th), a variety of disabilities (ADHD, Autism, Speech Impairments, Intellectual Disability, and Emotional Disturbance) and Cultures (70% African American, 20 % Hispanic and 10% Asian). In the educational setting, students with moderate disabilities have been stigmatized, separated, and made “fun of” because of their differences, odd behavior, lack of impulse control and unique needs. Through these lessons students can recognize their unique abilities and culture, improve their confidence and appearance, and behave in more acceptable ways, so they can be included, fit in and contribute to the group.

These books, puzzles and materials will be utilized to help our students recognize and embrace their unique identities and to build a culture where everyone feels valued and heard, and where every individual can contribute their full potential to the community.

Every book and resource will be used for the lessons on: Identifying our Feelings; Embrace your Culture; Understand your Disability; Coping Strategies; Keeping Clean; and Developing Critical Skills (Reading, Math and Writing) will level the Plainfield with their non-disabled peers and will instill and foster a feeling that they belong and that their differences are not an obstacle, but a gift to use so they can also reach their fullest potential and succeed in school and in life. Our classroom really need your support to implement the lessons to help our students recognize their differences as part of their potential to succeed and identify their common traits with their counterparts in the General Education setting, and know that they CAN have confidence in a BRIGHT FUTURE.
