Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students here come from all over the globe! Many are happy to be with us here in the United States, but they also miss their loved ones and their home countries. These t-shirts are designed to make everyone feel that they BELONG to our school community, and we are here to support each other to be the best that we can be in academics, sports, careers and as family and community members.

The words "I Belong to..." will help students know they are part of a caring community where they can rebuild their lives.

They can also wear the T-shirts for an extra layer in Minnesota's cold weather.

Our students need social-emotional support as they find their footing in a new place, new culture and new country! These t-shirts are customized using fabric paint by each student to reflect their past and their future journey. The mascot is a Lion, sitting peacefully holding a US flag in the foreground. Two other flags wave in the background. The students will choose to decorate those flags with the country flag of their choice.

My students are learning English, working, and going to school. Many send money home to family. They generously share most everything they have with their friends and family. This T-shirt is designed as an identity project specifically for each of them. It will be a keepsake in the years to come.
