Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a total of 50, amazing students who are learning Spanish as a strong first language, a second or even a third language. My students are a caring, resilient and compassionate group of kids. They care and worry about each other. If I am unaware of something that is going on and I want to know more, all I need to do is ask.

My students come from diverse backgrounds, cultures and needs.

Although our school might be situated in a high poverty neighborhood, my students never complain about anything and are thankful for what they have.

My Project

I would like books to build my classroom library to support my students to feel a sense of belonging through the books they have access to for independent reading. The books I have chosen not only are culturally and linguistically diverse, but also represent a majority in our school community specifically.

I am also hoping to be able to give my students the opportunity to spark deep conversations about diversity and the meaning of growing up in a community where we all feel represented and welcomed.

In hopes that through this process students feel confident to say "I belong!"
