Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am thrilled to be teaching math and science to my incredible sixth graders this year! These are my favorite subjects, and I just love this age group. My students are enthusiastic about learning new things and are full of energy!

Our school has a spectacular staff and incredible community support.

Even though we are located in a low socioeconomic area, it is clear that parents want the best for their children by their active involvement.

My students face many daily challenges, as many come from foster homes or might be experiencing homelessness; however, they always come to school with dazzling smiles, ready to have fun learning.

This was an amazing school year because so much has changed. It was difficult to transition to distance learning as neither staff nor families were prepared. I am confident that we all did our very best.

My Project

This is one of my favorite quotes. The first time I heard it, I can remember thinking for hours about different people that I have know throughout my life. It had such a powerful effect on me that it has stuck with me.

As this unprecedented year of remote learning comes to an end, I want my sixth graders to feel empowered. I want them to know that I believe in them and that they can succeed. I am always telling them that they can do anything they put their minds to! This class has found a very special place in my heart. I want them to always remember that their teacher cared about and believed in them. A Life Survival bag will do just that! This will be something special that I mail to them on the last day of school in June. It will consist of 16 items and a letter explaining each thing that I want them to remember. For example, "a sponge to soak up all the knowledge you can." And, "a Tootsie Pop to remind you that you will have to lick some difficult situations, but if you persevere, you will reap the sweetest results." I know that my students will treasure this letter and how it makes them feel long after they leave my classroom. I hope that it will inspire each of them to work hard and make their dreams come true.
