Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Einstein once said, "Education is not only the learning of facts, but of training the mind to think." This couldn't be more true for my students because memorizing facts doesn't come easily to them. My class of 10 special education students vary in their abilities, academic and behavioral, but they all equally love to learn every day, when they're taught in a way that they can understand.
Most of my students are big picture thinkers.
Try to get them to memorize something for the sake of knowing it, and you will probably get nowhere, but tell them why it's important and they will want to understand.
Daily disappointments don't get them down. Instead they are learning each day how to turn those disappointments into ways to make themselves stronger. In second and third grade they're learning how to prioritize themselves and their learning for themselves, and not for the sake of learning.
My Project
The headphones requested will help all of my students hear their stories during listening station, listen to the sounds while they practice forming letters and numbers on their iPads, and hear the sounds from their online learning activities.
Currently almost all of our headphones are broken and either don't work in one ear, or have a constant background noise.
The listening library headphones are from the 1970-80's and children complain that they hurt their ears. These headphones would be a tremendous addition to our classroom and assist greatly in the daily learning taking place. Students will be able to perform their daily learning tasks without the added stress of having classroom equipment that's not functional. Instead they will celebrate the daily ease of learning with their brand new, working, and comfortable headphones.
