Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember come home from school and playing with letters and numbers then being excited when you could name those letters and numbers? I am trying to provide my students and their families with a similar experiences that they can do at home together.
I will be teaching a Pre-K class with a total of 18 energetic and curious Pre-k students.
All of my students attend school in a high poverty area in a inner city school district. I will be working with students who are learning English for the first time, attending school for the first time, and some students who just need a little extra support.
My Project
I am asking for 2 sets of 10 Transition to School Backpacks from Lakeshore Learning. Each student would have the opportunity to take the backpack home and use the supplies in the backpack through out the year to reinforce the school readiness skills that we are working on. Many of my students do not have access to supplies such as crayons, glue, pencils, ABC letters, manipulative's to practice counting skills, number cards and journals to practice writing at home. I also have many parents who come to me and ask me how they can be more involved in their child's education. These backpacks come with a calendar that has three months worth of activities, as well as the supplies that will be needed for those activities. These backpacks will allow parents to be involved in their child's education and for students to practice the school readiness skills we will be working on in the classroom. Some of those skills will be learning letters & numbers, counting, and working on fine motor skills.
