Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My three dozen spunky fifth graders are a diverse group of young scholars with a wide range of interests. They are motivated to succeed and eager to learn about the world around them.
Despite the negativity they may hear, my students embrace their diverse backgrounds and see their cultural heritages as strengths.
They are eager to learn more about role models and heroes that reflect their backgrounds. I want to make sure they know that they are not the enemy. This is our classroom and they are welcome.
We are a title 1 school in eastern Las Vegas. Our classroom welcomes a plethora of different types of learners and embraces all.
My Project
I am requesting more than 40 books that celebrate Jewish and Islamic faiths. I am requesting books that tell the often untold stories of Native American Indians and their resistance. I am requesting books that tell of the resistance to the Nazi invasion and embrace all faiths. We need books that teach about Muslim and Jewish heritage, and books on acceptance, resistance, non-violence, and standing up for what is right.
My students, despite their various religious and ethnic backgrounds, are not one another's enemies.
We are a diverse classroom that celebrates one another, not condemns. We accept and welcome all into our learning environment.
I am requesting materials to educate my students about our mistakes in the past and inspire them to make our world a better place for all. My students of Islamic and Jewish faiths are not the enemy. Refuge students are not the enemy. Help us combat ignorance and hateful speech with diverse literature, open minds, and open hearts.
