My Project
I teach in a rural school district with a high Indigenous population (70%) and high economic distress population (100% are on free or reduced-price lunch). We struggle with day-to-day needs. Project supplies for engaging and meaningful learning experiences are often a luxury for my students.
My seniors write a memoir of their lives that includes their plans and hopes for the future.
This 16 chapter memoir about themselves and their future plans is the culminating project for their writing experience for the year. It takes us several weeks to write the chapters and create the scrapbook-style project that they take upon graduation. I have had students return to visit who speak of their books and the experience and express how it has given them pride in their obstacles and accomplishments.
I would like to continue this project, but need help in purchasing the necessary materials, including paper and stickers, due to my own financial responsibilities. I would like help in getting the needed materials.
