Ms. Calhoun from Memphis TN is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a laptop computer.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
In this world of diversity it has become my responsibility to touch the lives of many students who are not fluent in the English language. The task of laying the foundation to master a rule governed system is a very challenging one. A laptop and software will greatly support our efforts.
My students represent two primary cultures.
68% are Hispanic while 32% are African American. They attend an urban area Title I school in Tennessee. They are very energetic, inquisitive, hard workers, and very willing to experience academic success. The school has a major focus on academic engagement yet, students have limited access to technological supports. With this laptop my students will have an opportunity to explore websites which provide needed skills and positive reinforcement designed not only to support academic engagement but to also enhance student success.
Through the acquisition of a laptop, students will not only be able to focus on basic literacy skills, they will be able to concurrently acquire technological skills through the acquisition of email addresses and the use of creating materials for publishing such as cards, invitations, letters, and the use of various visuals and photographs. They will learn how to integrate visuals and other technological skills into the current curriculum thus enhancing not only their level of academic acumen but also their level of creativity.
In supporting this project you will support the opportunity for students to acquire foundational skills that will carry them more successfully into their elementary, middle grades, and secondary programs specifically, while providing opportunities for higher learning futuristically.
This foundational knowledge will also propel them into the technological environment which is so necessary for financial independence as well as community support.
