This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Welcome to the Wonder Workshop Coding and Robotics Club!
Our club is made up of a group of 2nd and 3rd graders, most of whom do not have access to computers or technology outside of school.
The Coding Club is one of their only opportunities to participate in after school programs. This club is just for them! We meet once a week and learn about coding using the Code.org platform. So far students have learned how to work in teams to solve problems, how to write code and how to debugg IT problems... and we are just getting started!
These 8 and 9 year olds are super excited about the next step: writing code to control a robot. This year we could not participate in the International CODE.org robotics competition because we didn't have robots. Watch out, because next year we are coming and we are going to win!
My Project
Our students will learn how to write basic lines of code to conquer the Angry Bird, the extinction of the bee, and to make their own puzzles. They are very excited at the prospect of applying this knowledge to robotics.
This systematic exploration through CODE.org allows our students to build their understanding of a new language.
The language of code. Students will be encouraged to write code so that they can guide robots called Dash and Dot through a maze that they have designed. Students learn problem solving and develop perseverance.
Our children are developing 21st Century Skills and will have a shot at competing with kids from around the world.
