My students absolutely love engaging STEAM activities! They enter my classroom full of energy and enjoy asking thought-provoking questions as they find solutions to complete tasks. These young inventors and engineers are super happy to be exposed to a variety of STEAM challenges while learning in my STEAM Lab.
The motivation of my students to become leaders in a 21st-century world never ceases to amaze me!
We are a Title I school, which means that we receive financial assistance because we have a high percentage of students from low-income families. This year, our school qualified for a federally funded program that provides free breakfast and lunch to all students. Many of my students face personal challenges outside of our learning environment. Nevertheless, they eagerly participate when in my STEAM lab and crave new experiences.
My Project
To provide additional STEAM experiences for my students with various learning abilities and styles, I am requesting materials that we do not currently have in our STEAM lab. With the addition of these materials, ALL students will be able to do their best and reach higher-level skills while thinking more broadly about real-world problems.
My young learners are our future inventors, scientists, and engineers, so they need as many STEAM experiences as we can give them to succeed.
The inclusion of these materials supports my professional goal of fulfilling each child's potential. These items will be a great addition to my STEAM lab, as well as a beneficial resource during our "future-ready" interdisciplinary activities that include our school counselors, art teacher, and librarian. Upon completion of a real-life engineer-inspired kit, students will discover the functions of simple machines. The robots will provide engaging coding experiences while developing logic and problem-solving skills.
As an elementary teacher, I am faced with the challenge of preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist. Offering a variety of STEAM-related opportunities will give ALL of my students an additional avenue to gain the lifelong benefits of soft skills that all employers are seeking in their employees while expressing their imagination through innovation.
