Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students I teach are amazing. They come from many different backgrounds. Our school population is in an underserved community well below poverty level. Many parents work long hours just to supply basic necessities like food, clothing and housing.

These items will allow students to learn how to take care of themselves with care items that are not readily available to them at home.

Many parents cannot afford to supply students with these basic items. Having them in class, where students can take what they need, no questions asked, allows them to focus on their education rather than stressing about their appearance.

I received my classroom hygiene station 2 years ago from donors, just like you. Every year I ask for refills for our station, and donors have given generously. I cannot begin to describe how much the hygiene station has helped my students. They have learned the importance of personal hygiene, and feel empowered to advocate for themselves and not feel ashamed to ask for what they need. Students, whether in my class or not, know that they can come in and take what they need whenever they want.

Items I am asking for are items that we have run out of this year. Those include personal deodorants, lip balm, glasses wipes, toothpicks and mints. Other items we have at our station are hair ties, feminine products, lotion, bandaids and hand wipes.
