My Project

These hygiene items will help my student gain self-esteem and confidence as they will not be worried about their body odor or unkept appearance or feel the stigma when on their period. Having access to toiletry kits and other hygiene items will allow my students to carry themselves with their head held high. The ability to provide my students these necessities discretely, will improve class participation and a happy, healthy class environment.

Teenagers without access to hygiene products develop mental health issues.

I often have students that come to class with body odor issues where their peers refuse to sit with them or work with them in a group. I have teenage girls who are self-conscious and experiencing period-poverty. This results in these students developing school anxiety and makes them retreat into a shell. Often they have excessive school absences resulting in slow academic growth. With this project request, I am attempting to remove these limitations and provide a safe learning environment for all my students.

I have some students who are living in temporary housing arrangements where they do not have access to basic hygiene necessities and others who go home to a family where spending money on hygiene can't be a priority as they are struggling to put food on their tables. My goal is to help these students stay in school and break this vicious cycle of poverty.
