This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school serves almost 400 New York City public school students. Ninety-four percent of the population are minority students. Eighty percent qualify for free or reduced-rate lunch. About 30% are students with disabilities and English Language Learners.

We are a school that specializes in academics, business, and art while promoting college and career readiness with year-round experiences that include many work-based and service-learning opportunities for all our hard-working students including those economically disadvantaged.

Although my students are hard-working, enterprising, and try to Many young women in my school lack access to menstrual products, which are as necessary as toilet paper and soap. Due to stigma, many women and girls face an unnecessary barrier to learning. Studies have shown that lack of awareness of good feminine hygiene practices can result in serious health consequences for women and girls.

As an educator leader I need to resources to address issues of inequality and stigma, ensuring that no girl's learning is hindered by lack of access to the products she needs; I want to make sure they are ready available during class time as well on weekends.

My Project

Lack of menstrual hygiene products causes girls to miss school, affecting their learning and future opportunities. In low income families many of my students have to struggle to cover the cost of menstrual hygiene products. Many have been forced to choose between food and period products. For teenage girls, the idea of being unprepared for their period is daunting. Not only does it distract from in class lectures and assessments, it creates a social barrier that prevents young women from wanting to attend school.

Providing free famine hygiene products and supplies on hand will have positive effects on attendance, self confidence as they go throughout the day, taking comfort in the of security knowing their needs will met will in turn increase academic rigor and learning opportunities .
