Hydroponics in Kindergarten

My Project

This year, our school decided to focus more of Career Technical Education throughout all of the grade levels. Being a kindergarten inclusion teacher, I felt that farming would be a career that many of my students would be interested in learning more about.

Farm to kindergarten activities can increase children's willingness to try new foods and help them become familiar with local foods they will see in the community.

As we began the year, we took the time to plant a small garden behind our kindergarten classroom. However, the nearby community was not as respectful as we thought and destroyed much of our garden. To help ensure that out students have the opportunity to see the growth process of plants, an indoor hydroponic system would be a great fit for our classroom. Students will be able to see how plants grow from seed to vegetable (or flower/fruit) and be able to harvest their own food.
