Hydroponics for High School Students With Autism

My Students

Our High School specifically serves a population of students with high functioning autism spectrum disorders and other learning disabilities. We work hard to find novel ways to approach education that fits the unique needs of our students. When they connect with the learning process it becomes difficult for teachers to keep up with their levels of enthusiasm and outside-the-box creativity. My high school science students greatly benefit from hands-on laboratory experiences, for which this Donors Choose project has been created.

My Project

With your help, our special education science students can maintain a classroom garden year round. Hands-on projects like this engage students by providing a dynamic environment in which to observe, discover, experiment, nurture, and learn.

This hydroponics gardening system will cultivate a love for life science in the minds of our Biology and Botany students for years to come.

They will produce their own plant tissues for laboratory study, and personally experience the the law of the harvest. This garden will be a living laboratory where lessons are drawn from real-life experiences rather than textbook examples, allowing students to become active participants in the learning process.
