Hydroponics Does What?!

My students need a hydroponics system to learn all about what happens when you combine fish with plants.

My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds, and each has their own obstacles that they are trying to overcome. Hands-on work can help bring us together as a class. Even though I teach 5th and 6th grade, my students' abilities range from 1st to 6th grade. We have been expanding our understanding of nature and all that it has to provide for us. We hope to continue to expand and have a positive impact on the environment. Not only are we learning about the environment, we are learning skills that we can use throughout our lives.

My Project

When we combine what we already know with what we have grown from our greenhouse, students can see how hydroponics uses everything from the water, fish waste, to help the plants to produce something spectacular.

How cool would it be to see these two ecosystems combine before our very eyes to see what we can produce!

Students will be able to see the AquaSprouts garden connect to a ten gallon fish tank. They will then be able to plant many different types of seeds above the fish tank. We will also use a two foot long hydro plant lamp to help along the process. Using a hands on learning experience, and seeing the progress everyday in the classroom will urge students to consider what their impact can be on our environment!
