Creativity, imagination, problem solving and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for EVERY student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals. Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,100 children enrolled.
We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.
My Project
My students recently loved learning about what astronauts study in space and decided they would love to try a similar study in our classroom. The AeroGarden hydroponics system and microscope would be a great addition to our classroom science lab table. The students can learn and observe the ways in which plants grow without soil during the fall and winter months and investigate the plants under a microscope.
Our second graders will be able to generate inquiry questions, research hydroponics, draw the progression of the growing plants and record the data in their science observation notebooks.
By supporting this project, you will provide hands-on, true scientific learning for my students.
The clipboards will provide a hard surface for students to place their science observation notebooks, and the area rug will create a comfortable, soft area for students to sit on the floor around the science coffee table.
