This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
By law, all public schools must provide necessary school supplies to all students identified under McKinney-Vento (Homeless). In our district, reusable water bottles are one of the listed items on the district supply list.
As such, we need to ensure that all of our students in this program receive a backpack filled with all of the required supplies, including a water bottle.
While Title I funds are to be set aside for these items, when you have over 85 students identified, the funding (and supplies) run out. Having all of the needed supplies helps all of our most vulnerable students have what they need to be successful (and healthy/hydrated) at school.
