Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The "Hydrate and Reduce" project aims to empower students to take action against plastic pollution by distributing reusable water bottles to members of our local community. This student-led initiative not only addresses the pressing environmental issue of plastic waste but also promotes healthy hydration habits among residents.
Community Focus:
The primary community served by this project will be our local neighborhood, encompassing families, children, and local businesses. By providing reusable water bottles, we aim to encourage community members to reduce their reliance on single-use plastic bottles, which are a significant contributor to litter and pollution. Additionally, this initiative will foster a sense of responsibility towards our environment and encourage sustainable practices within the community.
Student-Led Activity:
Students will take the lead in organizing the distribution of water bottles. This will involve several key actions:
Planning: Students will brainstorm ideas to give the community water bottles from this project while spreading awareness about the project and its environmental benefits.
This will help to educate community members on the importance of reducing plastic waste.
Materials Request:
To successfully implement this initiative, we will request the following materials: reusable water bottles through DonorsChoose.
These resources will not only facilitate the distribution of water bottles but also empower students to take ownership of the project, enhance their leadership skills, and effectively communicate the project's goals to the community. Through this initiative, students will learn valuable lessons about sustainability, teamwork, and community engagement, ultimately making a lasting impact on both the environment and their local community.
It will also benefit the planet by reducing the amount of plastic one can waste buying regular water bottles.
