Currently my students have little access to technology as they have lost almost everything. I have regularly used TVs to broadcast news stories, documentaries, and clips from historical movies such as "Glory". Using the Ipod touch I can download such movies and stream to the Apple TV on a TV
Our students are a very diverse group of people who are intelligent and uniquely gifted.
They come from all over Queens and Brooklyn to attend an accelerated school and have built one of the best schools in New York City. For two years in a row, their hard work and diligence has been the foundation for our "A" rating.
My Project
I have regularly used TVs to broadcast news stories, documentaries, and clips from historical movies such as "Glory". Using the iPod touch I can download such movies and stream to the Apple TV on a TV.
My class, U.S. Government and Politics, regularly needs to access news stories, documentaries, and clips from movies to enhance their education. The curriculum requires students stay competent on current affairs and then apply them to the theories and concepts learned. For example, I was steadily showing them news clips from various news channels to enhance our "Campaigns and Elections" unit prior to the Presidential Election in November 2012.
This project is so important because it will enable my students to stay up to date on current affairs and excel in an accelerated curriculum.
The larger picture, it will enable me to motivate my students into becoming lifelong learners and participants in our democracy by allowing them to see the relevance in what they are learning.
