This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergartners always walk in with a smile on their faces ready to learn. They always strive for academic readiness no matter what the situation is. Recently many of our students have been affected by Hurricane Harvey and are struggling emotionally and financially due to being displaced. My students come from a very low socio-economic area, with very little resources to engage them in learning. I want to build a stress free foundation in my classroom, so when they leave my classroom they are motivated and excited about learning. I want them to carry the passion of learning with them forever. Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated.
The students that make up my classroom are 99% low income and at risk for dropping out before finishing high-school.
My Project
During our return back to school/work. We notice that our carpet was ruined due to water and not washing them with the proper care. The carpet was no longer good or safe for the kids to sit at. My students are now sitting on a cold floor which is not safe for them at all. The carpet was used to cover the cold floor and was used for whole group activities. This carpet will make my classroom much more inviting and comfortable for my students. It will give me the opportunity to resign my students to have their own space on the carpet. This will help my students be more responsible for their actions. It will cause less distractions and will allow is to keep on learning without the extra noise. We will be doing a lot of group work sitting on the floor and the carpet will make it much more comfortable.
