Help me give my students the opportunity to make self-to-text, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections on the topic of hurricanes. Using the two texts "Hurricane Heroes in Texas" and "I Survived Hurricane Katrina".
I have the pleasure of working with a diverse group of students. They come from a variety of backgrounds but they all come to school everyday ready to learn.
Even Hurricane Florence did not discourage them from being ready to learn when they walked back into the classroom on the first day back to school.
I love the energy they bring into the classroom and their willingness to learn.
My favorite place to be is in my classroom with these kids. They encourage, inspire, and challenge me everyday in the classroom to be the best I can be.
The two text " Hurricane Heroes in Texas" and "I Survived Hurricane Katrina" will make a different in students' learning by giving them a chance to read a historical fiction and nonfiction text about hurricanes.
The students' have experienced living through two hurricanes in our community within the last three years.
The two different texts will allow students to have their own text as we complete a novel study on each one.
Our school lost our media center during Hurricane Florence and this project would provide the resources to help keep students engaged in reading by making real life connections to the texts.
