Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Imagine yourself sitting back...relaxing...and listening to a great story on tape. There is nothing better than being able to engage yourself in one of your favorite stories. I am currently teaching in a 4th grade classroom in Chicago, Illinois. Our school is located in a middle class neighborhood, and 87% of our students qualify to receive free lunch. Our students show a great deal of responsibility and discipline. They are involved in extra curricular activities, and are focused and ready to learn each day. Since resources in our school are very limited I am asking for assistance in creating our classroom listening center. Listening centers not only engage the reader, but they also help students improve fluency, build vocabulary, and increase comprehension skills. I would like my students to have an amazing listening center where they can sit, relax, and enjoy a great variety of books on tape. Not only will my students be able to listen to stories written by well known authors, but they will be able to listen to stories that have been written and recorded by their peers. This donation of listening center material would be greatly appreciated by myself, and especially my 4th grade students. After all, the more exposure the students have to modeled reading, the better readers they will soon become.
