My Students
Hungry for reading and healthy snacks! My students don't always have the resources to provide snacks at school, and some don't have many books at home. This project addresses that challenge by providing healthy snacks and a magazine to take home a share with families after reading at school.
Our classroom is in an urban setting. We have almost 70% low income students in our school overall. My classroom has many English language learners. Our students love to read books and are learning to read the pictures, and sound out the words. We eat a healthy snack together every afternoon.
My Project
Students will read the Let's Find Out magazines together in class. Then they will take the magazines home to share with their families. The snack will be eaten daily in the afternoon. Many families are stretched for finances and can't always provide snack at school. The dried fruit, applesauce and crackers will provide a daily consistent healthy snack. In the winter students always end up with dry hands- the unscented lotion helps to keep them from cracking.
Students will bring home reading material to share with their families and encourage a love of reading. The snacks will ensure that tummies are full before leaving for home. The read aloud book and other supplies will become part of the daily routine in our busy classroom.
