My Students

Students in my classroom are creative, resilient and passionate about learning. I teach at a low income school, and my students face many challenges in their daily life. Many of my students are homeless, have incarcerated parents, and have experienced various types of childhood trauma. The odds are stacked against them, but they still have the courage to show up every day at school and learn.

My students come from Native American and other diverse backgrounds, and contribute much to the unique cultural makeup of our classroom.

My Project

Currently, one in six children in Montana struggle with hunger. The students in my classroom make up a significant portion of this statistic. For many of my students, the only meals they receive come from the school lunch and breakfast programs.

According to eatright.org, the average ten-year-old child should eat every 3-4 hours.

These snacks would provide much needed fuel to help my students maximize their learning throughout the day. According to feedingamerica.org, "Kids at-risk of hunger may be less equipped to reach their full potential." By providing my students with these much needed snacks, they will be able to learn to their full capabilities.
