This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 10th-grade biology students are bright, curious learners, but many face daily challenges that extend beyond the classroom. For some, school meals are their only source of nutrition, making it difficult to stay focused throughout the day. These students are eager to explore complex biological concepts, yet hunger often stands in the way of their success.
Breaking the hunger barrier for equitable learning.
By the time my afternoon biology classes begin, many students’ energy levels have dropped, making it hard for them to concentrate—especially during hands-on activities and labs.
Providing snacks will help ensure that students can fully engage with the fascinating world of biology. This isn’t just about offering food; it’s about eliminating obstacles to learning and showing students that their well-being matters.
This project will support 150 students across my five biology classes, supplying snacks throughout the semester so no student has to struggle to focus due to hunger.
