Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in Miami Beach. My students are from under-privileged households, mostly non english speakers. My students are passionate about school they have a desire to learn and read more. I will use these novels in group reading activities and one-on-one learning.
Many of my students have shown an interest in reading, and would jump at the chance to read more.
Their passion overflows into their daily activities, so one can see how much they want to learn about their favorite subjects.
Teaching my class is a joy like none other. My students are lighthearted, joyful children with massive unmined potential.
My Project
Unfortunately, life isn't always like the movies. There's nothing that will transport you away from the mundane minutiae of your routine better than a book.
The sets of books will play an important role in my students love for reading!
Reading clearly introduces young people to new words, so the link between reading for pleasure and vocabulary development is expected. It is suggested that reading also introduces young people to new ideas. Along with teaching them new vocabulary, it helps them understand and absorb new information and concepts at school. Independent reading may also promote a more self-sufficient approach to learning in general.
Having enough copies of Because of Winn-Dixie and Sideways Stories available to check out to the students will encourage them to explore and connect to literature on new and deeper levels.
