This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of first graders in a Title I school. They are each unique with different learning styles and interests. Despite their differences, they come to school each day with open minds and open hearts and are ready to tackle the day.
Their passion for learning and the desire to do well is what makes them so phenomenal.
My students are thinkers. They persevere and support each other when learning new concepts. They build each other up. They feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. These students have built relationships with not only me, but with each other. In our classroom, we are like a family. We laugh together, grow together, and they encourage each other to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
My Project
My students are coming back to school after a month off and this means one thing, they are going to be hungry. I am requesting a variety of healthy snacks for my students to eat during the day to help quiet the rumbles in their stomach. Many times my students come to school hungry and aren't given the chance to eat at home. Seeing the tears streaming down their cheeks because they are hungry tugs at my heart strings. It is also a long day for a first grader and they often get hungry in the afternoon. Having a variety of snacks like crackers, pretzels, granola bars, Pop-Tarts and Rice Krispies treats in our classroom will allow me to give my students breakfast and snacks during the day which will help eliminate hunger pains.
Food and a clean environment should never be a concern for them.
I would also like to get some basic cleaning supplies like Clorox wipes. No one likes a dirty, stinky room. Each and every day germs are brought into our classroom. It's like a petri dish of germs allowing my students to get sick and miss valuable learning experiences. These cleaning supplies will allow our classroom to be clean and germ free.
