This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are integrating technology at a super pace. We have slowly obtained tablets through the kindness of supporters through donors choose. However, we do not have many outlets in our classroom. Keeping up with the usage demand, we need to keep tablets charged. We need charging ports.
Our students are inner city and attend our medical magnet school from all parts of the city.
Most ride two different public transportation buses twice daily, to come to school and travel home. Their day begins at 5:00am. Most do not have access at home, or the devices to use. Many travel to school early to gain access or stay later in order to have access to complete schoolwork. These charging stations and the Kindle will support the demand on usage and aid in the frequency of use.
My Project
My students need charging ports and a Kindle Fire tablet to aid in classroom use of technology. Our building is a converted warehouse. The design did not have planned outlets throughout the building and the outlets in each room are few. Thus, charging laptops or tablets, is very time consuming. Obtaining these charging stations will allow students to have free access all the time of a fully charged device, without having to wait. The Kindle will be an added bonus to the small library of devices.
These items will greatly improve the access time and availability to the very needed technology our students need in order to stay focused, motivated and to achieve at the level necessary.
Charging stations for the electronic devices and the Kindle Fire will be a prime and valuable asset to the classroom.
