Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the face of growing AI usage in schools, as well as the deep reach of cell phones, our classrooms need more opportunities to do things that build community. Although Hawaii is amazing, the HI that needs to be boosted is Human Intelligence skills. These are things that only humans can do: critical thinking, creative problem-solving, empathetic relationship-building, and effective communication. If we can strengthen the things that AI can't do, we will have a stronger workforce. "Learning human emotions, navigate cultural nuances, empathize with others, and generate creative insights" included.

Learning how to use AI skills are important, and I plan to demonstrate its best use in coursework, but HI skills need to be reinforced too.

Your contribution goes to purchase team games, puzzles, medal ribbons, and coloring books for my high school Computing & Robotics: LAND students, an alternative to Chemistry in the physical sciences. I hope to do these regularly throughout the year, but the first week in August will be crucial to building camaraderie, communication, and teamwork using these tools. I hope to have one of the most fun, most hands-on, engaging classes in the school. Let's hope I can pull it off this 12th year of teaching at Barstow High, a desert city in Southern California.
