Human Centered Design With Arduino Coding

Help me give my students water pumps, LCD Screens and Arduino kits to build a soil moisture sensing Arduino system for their Human Centered Design Engineering Project.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Stratton's classroom raised $232

My Students

We have an amazing group of talented, dedicated, and diverse students that compete at a high level despite operating on a shoe-string budget. Our students consistently earn high accolades through sheer force of will. Somehow they always rise to the challenge and hold their own against properly funded schools across the country using they ingenuity and ability. With the proper support our school could become a premier STEM program in our city.

As part of the largest high school in the Philadelphia School District, our school is home to over 3,500 students with over 50 languages spoken and just as many socioeconomic backgrounds.

School provides a safe space where students differences are embraced and students can focus on their learning and growth as scientists and as emerging adults.

My Project

By funding this project you will be allowing my students to continue their work on a Human Centered Engineering Design project in the field of Arduino based programming. The students will be submitting their projects as well as a sales pitch, poster presentation and 15 page technical essay to the MESA 2020 Competition. This year's project is centered around measuring soil moisture in crops in order to increase crop yield. Students will code the Arduino units by hand to display information on the LCD Screens. They plan to also code pH and moisture sensors as well to monitor overall crop health.

Last year, thanks to donors like you, my students were able to build a self sustaining hydroponic garden system and place 4th in the MESA National Competition for their Arduino based design.

We are asking again that you help fund this project. These students complete this project on their own outside of school hours through our Project SPARC Club. They work tirelessly from now until the State Competition in May researching, writing, building and practicing their presentations. It is my hope that our students will again be able to proudly display their hard work in Arizona at the National Competition. Thank you in advance for your kind support of our project.
