Hi there, I am a second year middle school science teacher. I teach 7th grade science, which is life science one semester and and health science the other semester. My obstacle these past two years has been funding for science supplies in my classroom. The school I am at this year did not have any extra money to give to us to buy supplies, and the science department at my school is lacking a lot of what I was wanting. I spent money out of my own pocket to buy classroom organization supplies as well as some plant and animal cell models. This was before I learned about Donors Choose. I realize that as a teacher, I am always going to have to put in some of my own money to enhance lessons. I'm just hoping for a little break. I am hoping this program will help me out with my financial burden to get supplies I need. I would love to have hands-on learning human anatomy models of the brain, heart, and the torso. These were areas I covered heavily this year and I think it would have been great if I had models for these organs. Seeing a flat, non-dimensional picture of the organs just does not produce the same learning effect as does holding and pulling apart models of the organs. And I really want my students to have the best learning experiences possible in my classroom. I would be so grateful for funding to help in gaining these supplies! It would put me one step closer to having the science classroom that I dream of, and I know my students will benefit from them. Thank you for your time and thought.
