My students are active, curious, engaged, and want to know about their culture! They love learning songs and dances about their ancestral homeland as well as other Polynesian cultures! I am so blessed to be able to pass on the Hawaiian culture to the next generation!
My students are limited in their learning because of the lack of resources we have in my dance classroom.
Once a PE storage room, two years ago I turned my classroom into a full-fledged dance studio! I am still building it up to its full capacity with my school's limited funding.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves to dance, and I want to make sure we are performance ready as we have already been invited to perform at various events in the community! My students are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and wish to show them off to the rest of the world!
My Project
The use of these basic items in a dance classroom is essential for the smooth operation of my class. Students need a shoe rack to put their shoes, as I require students to dance barefooted. Hanging racks will allow students to hang their hula skirts and costumes. A mop and a vacuum will allow us to keep our dance studio clean as well as teach the students the important Hawaiian value of kuleana, or responsibility of helping to take care of a special place.

Students will be able to show others in the community that dancing hula is a great hobby and it can help at-risk youth and youth facing the troubles of their age!
