Our school needs some new compression (hug) vests to support our students. Currently, we have about 10 vests in our building of various sizes, but there aren't always enough to support ALL of the students that would benefit from the deep pressure. Very often, the vests we have left in the closet are the really small or really large ones, and not enough in the middle sizes.
We are asking for your support so we can get more sizes that fit our kiddos, that they can have the sensory accommodations they need to learn best.
For those more interested in learning about sensory needs, here's a little analogy. We all have a sensory "cup". When the cup is empty or low, we look for sensory information to fill it up (going for a run, listening to music, going on rollercoasters, asking for a hug, etc.). If our cup is overflowing, we become overwhelmed and seek to avoid sensory information (putting in ear plugs, going to our room and closing the door, avoiding rollercoasters, etc.). We all have different sized cups. Children with ASD, ADHD, or SPD often have cups much bigger or much smaller than average. Compression vests help kiddos looking to fill their cup with deep pressure to their bodies. They may go up to their peers or teachers and squeeze them, or dig their chins into others because they enjoy the pressure. Deep pressure can also help children to calm their bodies when they can't stop moving to get anxious. That's what these vests are designed for.
