My Students
I am thrilled to be teaching math and science to my incredible sixth graders this year! These are my favorite subjects, and I just love this age group. My students are enthusiastic about learning new things and are full of energy!
Our school has a spectacular staff and incredible community support.
Even though we are located in a low socioeconomic area, it is clear that parents want the best for their children by their active involvement.
My students face many daily challenges, as many come from foster homes or might be experiencing homelessness; however, they always come to school with dazzling smiles, ready to have fun learning.
This is going to be an amazing school year because so much has changed. It was difficult to transition to distance learning as neither staff nor families were prepared. Now, we are ready and our students are eager to start learning online. It will look so much different, but I am confident that we will all do our very best.
My Project
I would like to read The Invention of Hugo Cabret with my class. However, we do not have copies for every student. Last year, the students listened to the audio book and took notes. How great it would be to put the book in their hands as they listened. A major new standard is to have students cite text evidence. This is an extremely hard task without the book. If every student had a copy, they would be able to find examples in the text to support their answers to comprehension questions. This would be such a powerful learning tool.
I know our students would just love being able to have the book in their hands.
I can even imagine some of my kids taking the book home to read to younger siblings. You will have helped to spark their reading imaginations, molded 21st-Century thinkers, and perhaps even their love of the written word. Thank you for taking the time to read this request.
