Ms. Upshaw from Atlanta GA is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need touchscreen laptop computers and listening center in order to reach the various learning styles of my younger scholars. This project will help my students engage in interactive learning through the use of technology.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our Mission is to lovingly prepare scholars who are academically, socially and emotionally ready to excel in the college and career of their choice. This mission can be fulfilled if my students had the proper technology in the classroom to engage them in learning.
Many of my students face multiple challenges outside of my class that prevent them from having access to computers and or modern day technology.
We have a high percentage of low social economic households, some students are being raised by someone other than their parents and all of our students receive free lunch. Many of the students that we serve are latch key kids that go home only with a big brother or sister each day. My students have a very limited amount of parental support to reinforce skills that are learned during the school day. Nevertheless, my goal is to use educational technology to engage my student in a variety of subject areas in order to insure that they are ready for Kindergarten and beyond.
I believe these Laptop Computers and Listening Center will help my students build a solid foundation and successfully prepare them for kindergarten by improving their mathematical and pre-literacy skills in a fun interactive way. The Laptop Computers and Listening Center will allow my students to not only work collaboratively with each other but will also provide them the much needed opportunity to actively practice counting with understanding, number recognition, sorting and patterning, letter and sound recognition, and the ability to gain meaning by listening.
As a result of this project, my students will begin to understand how technology can affect the world around them as well as understand how technology can be used to promote, enhance and support learning in the classroom.
This project will provide my student with additional number sense, problem solving skills, phonics and the phonemic awareness interventions they need to be successful in kindergarten and beyond. My students will use these Laptops Computers and Listening Center during small group instructional times to maximize and extend their learning. The touchscreen will allow for easy access to programs and apps that are difficult for them to use on a traditional computer with a mouse.
