My 8th grade Technology students are required to participate in the development of props and activities for their End of the Year ceremonies. Classroom discussions sometimes take teachers and students in different directions. We fell on the topic of cameras while talking about inventions and innovations in the Technology class. Most of my students have their own smartphones; they love to take photos. I am older, and I shared the fun of using a “Polaroid” for capturing the moment. However, some of them just don't understand the joy of receiving an "instant print" of their recently captured image. They would like to participate in the instant camera experience. So, our 8th grade, class graduation conversation now involves a cool picture celebration!
We are creating themed "selfie zones" with access to INSTANT CAMERAS for our graduation party!!
ZWe need cameras that are not “smartphone” related. The students want to be seen in their amazing dance attire while taking pictures of themselves and immediately printing the photos! . A well lit display wall will highlight our middle school graduating class. The cameras and display wall will be available during their “exit” activities as well.
Our interactive selfie zone will require the students to “share” the physical cameras. So, they’ll have to wait their turn. The cameras will also allow them to “share” digital videos of the events of the night. Emphasis will be placed on responsible decision-making. And finally, they will “share” their printed images with each other or post them onto the VIP wall so that every 8th grader can be “included”. This is how they will become "Instant Celebrities".
