The project I am beginning is a life/social skills educational program for our K-5 program. Most of the students in my school live in poverty. A huge missing link for many of them is a family dynamic that teaches and models values. At our school we strive to provide a strong family dynamic within the classroom and our community.
This year we have an empty classroom and have decided to use it as a community room. We have nothing in this room currently, we are starting from scratch. This community room would be used by the entire school. In this community room we will emphasize sportsmanship, kindness, taking turns, having a positive attitude and acting with honor and fairness. Typically, these are values taught in the home during family time. Not all of our students are afforded that opportunity. Students that lack these skills grow up “in trouble” and constantly feel “wronged” by their superiors. We would like to provide this missing educational link. Social skills are a huge part of education often missed because of a lack of supplies. We also need balls for use on the playground.
The expected educational value to the students is unmeasurable. Teaching students values not only contributes positively to the students but positively impacts the surrounding community. Many of our students come from broken homes. We must provide the students with the values they are unable to receive at home. Teaching values at our school will positively impact the students, the teachers and the entire community. To teach these values we need games, balls, jump ropes and good sportsmanship activities.
Your help will help build and shape the rest of our children's lives. You will make a difference in a child's life.
