My Project

In my high school classroom, which serves a diverse student population with many low-income and English Language Learner (ELL) students, I've developed an innovative motivational system that simultaneously addresses academic achievement and classroom community building.

The students are highly motivated by this reward system.

Each class begins with a strategic bell ringer activity that reviews previous content. By requiring every student to answer questions daily, I gain valuable insights into their learning progress while empowering students to track their own academic development.

The cornerstone of this approach is the "bio buck" reward system. Students earn laminated currency for correctly answering questions, creating a tangible representation of their academic success. Upon collecting ten "bucks," students select a reward from a designated prize box and contribute to a collaborative numbers chart.

This interactive chart transforms individual achievements into a collective classroom experience. When the class collaboratively fills ten chart spots, they celebrate with a shared party—reinforcing the value of collaborative success.

The program's dual motivational strategy—providing both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards—has proven remarkably effective. Students are enthusiastic participants, demonstrating increased engagement and a sense of shared academic purpose.

By design, this system cultivates learning, builds self-confidence, and creates a unified, supportive classroom environment where every student's contribution is valued and celebrated.
