My poetry unit needs 30 poetry journals, an overhead poetry kit, and a Shel Silverstein CD set, among a large assortment of poetry books on CD.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Kohls's classroom raised $602
This project is fully funded
I teach first grade students who attend a Title 1 school in a high-need community of Seattle, WA.
The students in my literacy group are not reading yet. We are learning sight words and phonics. I would love to incorporate poetry since my students have a lot of creativity but can't yet write many words. The students would really benefit from your help.
Why Poetry? Poetry is a wonderful way to teach reading and writing, especially to the emergent, early/beginning readers. Through reading and writing poetry, my students will be able to express their feelings, thoughts and imagination about silly to serious topics.
Keep a Poem in Your Pocket
Keep a poem in your pocket
And a picture in your head
And you'll never feel lonely
At night when you're in bed.
The little poem will sing to you
The little picture bring to you
A dozen dreams to dance to you
At night when you're in bed.
So-
Keep a poem in your pocket
And a picture in your head
And you'll never feel lonely
At night when you're in bed.
-Beatrice Schenk de Rogniers
Your help will stimulate learning through seeing, hearing, and doing. It will also reinforce skill themes, allow us to be a literacy model, and add more fun to our program! My students would greatly benefit from this poetry material.
