This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in Camden, N.J. This city has one of the highest crime rates in the country. Daily, my students have to deal with crime, gangs. poverty, and no family structure. I go to my students' homes and see their deplorable living conditions. They barely have any furniture, limited lighting, and have bug-infested rooms. While they deal with all of that, many come to school to get a break from their lives and are eager to learn.

One class my students look forward to is Driver Education.

They want to get their driver's license without having to drive illegally, which many do. So many students are bored with school yet are eager to get a class that will be immediately beneficial to them.

Some of my students will wait past their 17th birthdays just to take the New Jersey State written test in my class, even though they could go to the motor vehicle department and take the test.

My Project

My students need to get their drivers' licenses to help their families with their life activities. Students tell me in class that with them driving they can food shop or get a job to help their families. Most of the family members don't drive and rely on their kids to help. With this new equipment, I can monitor my students' progress in real time on the driving simulators to ensure they pass their driving tests. With limited access to real car driving experiences, driving simulators give excellent insight and feel to real driving. Here the teacher can make sure the students pass their driving tests.
