This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hands down, our 3rd - 8th-grade students are recognized as being some of the best in our large, urban district! Our school is perceived as a "gem" in a larger community south of downtown because of our smart, hardworking, self-motivated students.
About 85% of our students are low income, first-generation Hispanics born in the U.S.
Though economically disadvantaged, they're doing their best to adapt to a culture that values and rewards higher education. As English language learners, they strive to excel in school and dream of attending university.
My Project
These pedometers will help motivate my students to stay active and reach a daily step goal in P.E. class.
In my P.E.
class, we begin with a daily 15-20 minute walk. To help self motivate my students, a set of classroom pedometers will help students track their steps and create weekly step goals!
Many times I walk with students to continue motivating them when they become tired. With a set of classroom pedometers, students can compete daily with each other in a fun way! It also will help create healthy lifestyle habits!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
