My students need the following items to help them become more successful in their learning process. Their ability to choose a preferred seating and/or device will encourage them to stay focused and on track.
Our elementary is a Title I school, servicing approximately 740 students located in Georgia. Of the served population, 92% have been classified as economically disadvantaged with a high single parent home make up.
The community that houses our school is also economically challenged with a high crime rate and major gang presence.
The crime rate is indicative of the environment that yields approximately 201 crimes per square mile. This increases the likelihood that the target population that we intend to serve will be impacted inevitably at some point and are likely to seek protection by gang affiliations for their perceived safety.
My Project
Selective seating will continue to enhance the flexible classroom that I strive to create. My classroom is a place that my students really enjoy. The openness of the classroom and their ability to select seating that matches individual moods and comfort level is amazing. Every student seat that is placed in my room is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the option to choose. Each of these seats have been chosen with my students in mind. I have observed them over the past semester and know what they might enjoy.
With flexible seating, my students will be able to choose from a variety of seat types that will allow them to enjoy comfort and choice, which limits distraction to their learning.
The best way to increase achievement is to limit distractions and promote choice. Flexible seating will continue to help my students grow stronger academically. I am excited about the reaction of my students and their anticipated growth.
