How Does Light Move?

Help me give my students flashlights, mirrors, and glow sticks they need to explore light and how it reflects and refracts.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to our wonderful STEM and Technology Lab!

The students who come into the STEM and Technology Lab are eager to learn and explore their science standards through hands-on activities.

During our time together, students will investigate different Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics concepts through hands-on learning. These students enjoy working hard to investigate new concepts and create links in their knowledge through hands-on learning.

Each week, the students who come into the STEM and Technology Lab amaze me; they all come from such different backgrounds and converge in our Title I school. They have different experiences and challenges which we blend together to make our STEM Lab an environment where each student can learn and grow in their STEM knowledge.

My Project

The third-grade students who come into the STEM Lab work on many different projects but one of our favorites is working on light rays. We explore how light rays reflect, refract, and absorb in different materials.

These flashlights, mirrors, and glowsticks will provide enough materials that all the students can explore light rays at one time.

This will allow the students to move through different stations looking at the light reflecting off the mirrors onto different surfaces, how light rays absorb in different materials, and how the light rays refract in different materials. The glow sticks are used to show how light travels in a straight line until it interacts with a different medium.
