This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What would you do if you couldn't print? Rant and rave and yell "Doggone it!"? That's how my students feel after doing a stint of Googling and researching until their eyes squint.

With no hard copy to take home or sheet of paper to view, my students only get their reports half done as they hand write what's new.

With class time devoted to researching on the web, Having a printer would make me an instant celeb. Students would be capable of downloading their work, This would boost their creativity as an added perk. My students come from a high poverty area, yet my school has created a Gifted & Talented program to help these students compete with their peers at other schools. My students are excited to use computers in my Science lab, but unfortunately I do not have a printer in my room. The other classrooms in my wing of the school also lack printers which forces students to copy everything by hand. If they don't have a printer at home, all their work is done on loose leaf paper.

My Project

Yes, it's true my classroom has five laptop computers which my classes of 30 students must share. Teaching four different classes means I see 120 students a day. Having a printer would allow students more time on the laptops if they could print out their work and then let the next student get their research done. My students could also create professional looking reports which would increase their self esteem and develop important writing habits for high school.

Technology is constantly changing and it would be wonderful for my students to keep up with the trends.

A simple device we take for granted, such as a printer, would make an enormous difference in the daily lives of my students. Instead of pencil and paper, my students could envision and create their ideas on a computer and print out the results in two seconds. My students need opportunities to succeed in the real world and having a printer is definitely a step in right direction.
