My Students
My students grew up in the heart of Waimanalo, located on the Windward side of Oahu, in the state of Hawaii. This place is a very close knit community. My students come from struggling families, and they just need a lot of love! We work every day to be college ready, and prepare ourselves for the real world.
Our school is located in a predominately rural, low-income neighborhood with a considerable portion of the children of Hawaiian and/or Pacific Islander ancestry.
My Project
We are all curious about space travel and the ability to reach near planets. A round way trip to Mars will leave our astronauts traveling in space for two years. How do you live in space for long time frames? The Astronaut Ice Cream will demonstrate and show how eating in space is vastly different then eating on Earth. Students will get to taste the many types of freeze dry ice cream. I have been showing my class video clips of life on the International Space Station.
There are private companies with plans to send humans to the Moon, Mars, and near by asteroids.
This could be a huge leap forward in manned space travel. I want my students to be excited about space exploration and travel.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
